By 2015, Halton is expected to be home to a senior population of 82,000. With the expected rise in the seniors' population, regional council has endorsed a report called The Quality of Life for Seniors in Halton Today and Tomorrow, prepared by Halton Region's Elder Services Advisory Committee (ESAC). The report explores current statistics and trends relating to seniors and provides recommendations to improve their quality of life. "With the ever-increasing number of seniors that will make up our population over the next eight to 10 years, it is important that we address seniors' quality of life," said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr. "We are committed to continuing to care for the health and well being of our senior population in Halton," said Carr. The Quality of Life report looks at many issues facing seniors such as personal safety, financial security, mobility, community involvement, and health through four themes, which are: basic needs, independence, social and civic engagement and physical and mental health. "This excellent report helps to guide us in knowing where there are gaps in our services and ensuring that we meet the needs of our seniors in Halton," said Adelina Urbanski, Halton Region Commissioner of Social and Community Services Halton's Elder Services Advisory Committee prepared the report to assist regional council in future planning and to help ensure Halton is a more seniorfriendly community. "The Elder Services Advisory Committee is always looking at what we can recommend to Halton to improve the quality of life for seniors," said ESAC Chair Carole Ward. "ESAC will continue to advise Regional Council on seniors' issues today and in the future."
