www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday September 15, 2007 - 19 Deadline looms for tree hunt The hunt is on for Oakville's best trees. Oakvillegreen Conservation Association and the Town of Oakville are holding the Great Heritage Tree Hunt and photo contest to find exceptional examples of heritage trees in the community. But time is running out -- deadline for entries is Monday, Sept. 17. Town residents are encouraged to nominate some of Oakville's oldest and most magnificent trees that they feel deserve recognition. "Oakville's citizens love their trees and we believe this event will give people a chance to recognize them," says Liz Benneian, president of Oakvillegreen Conservation Association. The tree hunt also helps the Town identify important native trees in Oakville. "The seeds from heritage trees that are rare, disease resistant, and hardy will be collected and used to grow new trees that will be planted around Oakville," says John McNeil, Manager, Forestry and Cemetery Services for the Town of Oakville. There are 10 categories for tree nominations and eight categories for photo entries. A panel of tree and photography experts will judge the entries and choose winners in each category. Winning nominators and photographers will be honoured at the Mayor's Heritage Tree Awards Ceremony at Town Hall on Monday, Oct. 15. Oakville's Great Heritage Tree Hunt celebrates the Town's designation as the 2007 Forest Capital of Canada by the Canadian Forestry Association. Information on the tree hunt and entry forms are available online at www.oakvillegreen.org. 2007 XL7 $ WINNER Motoring TV Best New Large SUV 379 1.8 0 LEASE FROM FOR 60 MONTHS ** % FINANCING %*** PER MONTH DOWN PAYMENT $2,365 MSRP $30,995* FOR 48 MONTHS XL7.ca Available AWD / 3.6 litre, V6 engine / Front and side curtain airbags / Seating for seven / Climate control A/C / ESP with traction control / ABS with EBD / 5-speed automatic Cruise control / Power steering, windows, mirrors and door locks / Remote keyless entry / Tire Pressure Monitoring System / Engine immobilizer / AM/FM/CD/MP3 player with 6 speakers Towing capacity: 3,500 lbs / Fuel economy: City --12.9 L/100 km (22 mpg); Hwy --9.0 L/100 km (31 mpg) 2007 SWIFT+ Artiques Roadshow unearths hidden treasures Within 40 minutes of the start of the British Artiques Roadshow event at Hopedale Mall on Thursday, Canadian paintings surfaced after years of obscurity in the bottom of closets and from a box in the basement. The first painting was a Canadian abstract by artist Kazuo Nakamura in 1950 depicting a lakeside forest. It was appraised at between $8,000 to $10,000. This was soon to be out shadowed by J.E.H. MacDonald's view of Mount Owen, locked away in an old wardrobe since grandma died in 1995. It had stayed out of sight because she didn't like it. It was valued at between $35,000 - $40,000. Minutes later, works by self taught Canadian Artist Wasyl Kurelek surfaced for the first time in 40 years. A Saskatchewan Harvest was valued at $30,000, followed on its heels by The Old Kirk in Winter painted in a naïve style. The value was estimated at $60,000 and both paintings were from the same garbage bag, which was kept under the bed. With another day ahead of them, the roadshow experts in art and antiques expect the treasure trail to top the half million mark. Those seeking appraisals should set up an appointment by calling Vicky Shutte of Hopedale Mall's management office at 905-827-7146. $ 179 0 1.8 0 ** $ % %*** PER MONTH MSRP $13,895* FOR 60 MONTHS AM/FM/CD/MP3 player with 4 speakers / 1.6 litre, 4 cylinder engine / Seating for five / Tachometer / Digital clock / Tilt steering / Power steering / Rear window wiper and washer Rear window defroster / Dual front and side airbags / Split-folding rear seatbacks / Engine block heater / Child-proof rear door locks Fuel economy: City -- 8.9 L/100 km (32 mpg); Hwy -- 5.9 L/100 km (48 mpg) FOR MORE INFO OR TO FIND THE DEALER NEAREST YOU, VISIT SUZUKI.ca Suzuki of Oakville 2219 Wyecroft Road, Oakville, ON L6L 5L7 905-469-2429 Toll Free 1-866-229-3897 Fax 905-469-4562 CONSUMERS SHOULD READ THE FOLLOWING: Vehicles may not be exactly as shown. *MSRP for the 2007 XL7 with automatic transmission (model 6E1D8A7) / 2007 Swift+ with manual transmission (model H5MS5A7).
