This is thanks to the Oakville Chamber Ensemble's newest addition ­ a fully professional orchestra. This ensemble also includes the Oakville Chamber Choir. Adding to the already rich cultural life of the Oakville area, this ensemble provides the opportunity for Oakville residents to hear superior quality music performed by professional musicians right here in their hometown. This ensemble will be unique in its approach to the performance of classical music, by providing the listener with historically informed interpretations of the music presented. The orchestra will perform music from all periods--from the Baroque and Renaissance period to the latest compositions of today. Playing modern instruments, the ensemble will use appropriate tunings, temperaments and playing techniques appropriate to the repertoire performed. For the choir, the use of stylistically and historically correct pronunciations of the text will offer works in a form much closer to their original settings. Maestro Stephane Potvin's interpretations are fresh and often unconventional. His characteristic approach brings new life to the music, with the shaping of each note, each phrase, each movement and then each work as a whole. Potvin introduces each piece by sharing contextual insights that allow the audience to better understand and appreciate the music presented. Both Potvin and the musicians of the Ensemble strive to create a personal rapport with members of the audience. They like to demonstrate and share their love and enjoyment of music. The 2007 ­ 2008 concert season includes two orchestral concerts, two choral programs and one joint performance by the orchestra and choir. All concerts will be held at St. Simon's Anglican Church, 1450 Litchfield Rd. Kicking off the season on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. is Messe de Minuit. The choir and orchestra will perform an all French Baroque program featuring Charpentier's Messe de Minuit, presented with its original French Latin pronunciation. Other concerts include Mozartmania on Feb. 9, Isn't it Romantic on March 8, Stamitz vs. Stamitz on March 29 and Missa Pange Lingua on May 31. Tickets cost $25 each, $15 for seniors/students and $5 for children age 15 and under. A subscription to all five concerts costs $100 or $60 for seniors/students and $20 for children 15 and under.
