2- The Oakville Beaver, Friday December 21, 2007 www.oakvillebeaver.com Town plans to limit intensification A plan to temporarily limit intensification across most of Oakville has now been approved by the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB). The board recently gave the nod to the Town's Interim Growth Management Policies, which were developed last spring in an attempt to protect existing neighbourhoods while the town completes a series of studies to identify where and how intensification should occur. Intensification, the new buzzword in land use planning circles, essentially means increasing the density of development in existing communities. Although a handful of site-specific appeals of the policies are still outstanding, the policies now cover the vast majority of the town. As a result, intensification proposals will now be considered for only a few locations across the town. Those locations Palermo Village, the Midtown Core and the Uptown Core have already been identified in town plans as locations suitable for concentrations of high-density residential and mixed-use development. The policies also allow for the consideration of intensification proposals for Bronte Village, Kerr Street and Old Oakville, provided they are compatible with surrounding development. "In terms of the planning integrity of our town, this is a milestone," said Mayor Rob Burton. SPRING 2008 SHOW BRIDES TO BE ARE FREE!
