The locket is a keepsake of their little boy, Jaycee, who died prematurely last April 18, at six months gestation. Jaycee had a lethal form of Osteogenesis Imperfecta Type 2 or skeletal dysplasia. This is the most severe and lethal of the genetic disorder, which is characterized by weak and severe bone deformity. It is a random gene mutation and occurs in about one in 100,000 people. "Unfortunately we were the one," said Withell. "Jaycee was perfect. His nose, his lips, his fingers, his big feet." While his life was short, the couple is honored that "he chose to spend it with us," said the grieving mom. The pendant, which has a gold dove holding an olive branch in its mouth, matches the dove on their son's urn. Missing locket "We decided to get keepsake necklaces because it didn't feel right to be somewhere without our little boy. This way we would always have him with us. It is comforting and feels almost `normal' when we go somewhere different and know that even in part our little boy is there to experience it with us," said Withell. While out running errands Saturday Nov. 24, Boquin figures the pendant was somehow lost in transit between Pic-a-dilli Pub, the Blockbuster/Dominion plaza on Neyagawa Boulevard and Mr. Greek by Winston Churchill Boulevard in Mississauga. The pair scoured through parking lots and asked in the stores the next morning but no one had reported any such finding. Online postings and posters on nearby poles has produced nothing either. "Not having the necklace feels like we've lost our son all over again," said Withell. "The thought of someone else wearing and having my baby with them is heartbreaking and sickening at the same time." To have to spend this Christmas without this small keepsake of their son is hard enough on the cou- ple. Jaycee would have been four months old had he been born healthy. "It's just not right, he is supposed to be home with us even if it is just his remains," she added. "I know some may think of them as just ashes but it is what makes up our family. It's all we have."
