Jacob Leung was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis when he was three. After many years of trying a variety of treatments including drug therapies, naturopathic, diet, a drug study, and more, the specialist concluded in the spring that there was nothing more to do for Jacob. He had been suffering with consistent symptoms ever since he was diagnosed seven years earlier. Jacob has never known anything but pain, diarrhea, poor appetite, low weight and slow growth. Last September, he had surgery to remove his entire colon and weighed only 47 lbs. Since surgery he has drastically improved. He has had a much improved appetite and has gained 17 lbs. Jacob has been to camp before, but was quite ill at the time and it wasn't a camp for sick children. Jacob lives with his mother and father, Donna and Wayne and his older sister Delia in Burlington. His dad has a number of health issues including workplace injury and is currently on Workman's Compensation so money is tight to pay the camp registration fee, which was $500 last year.
