Oakville's leaders of tomorrow are not waiting until they are older to start thinking about environmental issues. And contrary to popular belief, there are a lot of youth who do care about Mother Earth. This was evident at T. A. Blakelock High School's Eco-Innovation Environmental Conference on Tuesday, where more than 300 environmentally-savvy students from seven Oakville high schools gathered for a day of learning and sharing. "Eventually, we are all going to have to make a change and I'm hoping my generation will be the ones who are going to step up and make that change," said Valerie Shepherd, a Grade 11 Blakelock student, who is also part of the 14-member EcoSchools Team. "I'm hoping students leave today with ideas on how to make things better. There's a stereotype that teenagers don't care and they aren't motivated to do anything, but we will make a difference."
