www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday May 30, 2008 - 25 The Ridge hosts multicultural show O n May 15, Iroquois Ridge High School (IRHS) organized and hosted its second annual multicultural show. The show was comprised of community booths and diverse acts, including singing, dancing, and instrumental groups. There were about 20 acts performed by Ridge students as well as others performed by community participants. After a short intermission, a fashion show followed, captivating the audience with many authentic cultural fabrics and clothing. The World Council at the Ridge was introduced this year operating in collaboration with the Multicultural Council that had existed in previous years. The role of World Council is crucial to Iroquois Ridge as it spreads knowledge about the many diverse cultures that add to the colourful character of our school. Everyone is invited to share their way of life with people who are eager to nurture their curiosity of traditions and religions that extend far beyond the borders of Oakville. The multicultural show is designed to spread awareness and bring people together to share cultures. Culture is such a big part in the lives of so many people that it should be advertised and celebrated in any way possible. Hosting this show is also a great way to bring the community and school together. IRHS has always contributed much to the community and this show brings with it, a different yet essential cause for unity. This night is especially important because the more we know or learn about each other's cultures and traditions, the more we become connected and respectful of each other, which in turn, helps our school and community thrive as a stronger global unit. Overall, the show was a great success, from the door prize of an iPod Nano, to the food, and of course all the enthusiasm from the audience. There were many people involved in making the night run as smoothly as it did, HMC was a great help; coming to all the weekly meetings, organizing community groups, booths with different cultural information and donating raffle prizes, all their support and good will is greatly appreciated. An extension of gratitude should go out to all the dedicated students who created their own routines and found time in their busy day to come up to all the rehearsals. A special thanks to all the members of the community who came and helped make this night so unforgettable. Lastly, thank you to all the teachers and vice principal Mr. Dean Barnes, for their support and effort, because without you, this show would not have happened.
