The local theatre school has been offering summer camps for the past eight years and is once again bringing the popular program back for 2008. Although these are true theatre camps focusing on the various of aspects of working on and behind the stage, they are popular among children with all interests, according to Yo Mustafa, artistic director of West End Studio Theatre. "They aren't just for students who are just interested in theatre," he said. "It is actually a great way for other students to try something new. It is also great for self-confidence and getting kids out of their shell." The theatre school is offering two different camps. The first is for children aged four to six and is a week-long, half-day camp that runs Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to noon. There are four sessions that run in July. The cost is $125 per week. "This camp is completely about imagination and storytelling," said Mustafa. "The whole theme is `Let's play'. The other camp is for students aged seven to 16. The fullday camp runs for two weeks from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There are four sessions that run in July and August. The cost is $395 or $425, depending on the session. Students will participate in various workshops and activities that will result in creating and staging an original play. "These kids literally get to be the playwright, director and actor," Mustafa said. "We give them a topic at the beginning of the session and they go from there.
