"Considering the rising cost of fuel and environmental concerns worldwide, using public transit makes sense more than ever," said Mayor Burton. "This new terminal further enhances our efforts to improve service delivery and encourage ridership in Oakville." The opening of the terminal marks the completion of the first phase of construction and positions the terminal as a connection point for the five bus routes, 19, 20, 29, 30 and 200, that currently serve the Uptown Core. Upon completion of the second phase, the terminal will include additional bus bays and public amenities. The terminal will also become a hub for buses making connections from other municipalities. "This new terminal plays a key role in the Town's Transit Strategy which seeks to provide better service, to better serve our customers," said Barry Cole, director of transit services. "It's our commitment to continually enhance the public transit services offered to both residents and visitors of Oakville." The Province contributed $200,000 through Provincial Transit Expansion Funding for the construction of this project.
