The spa will also distribute ribbons to those who may wish to pick some up. While students from St. Ignatius of Loyola and Appleby College were at the kickoff Monday pledging their support and taking metres of ribbon back to their schools, it was announced that seven Oakville high schools were taking 10 ribbons each and would make efforts to draw their feeder elementary schools into the fray. Not to be outdone, S h a r o n Roebbelen of Oakville's K i n g ' s Christian Collegiate took 10 ribbons back to her school and challenged Oakville's other faithbased schools to join in. Roebbelen said her daughter spent some time in Malawi and learned that the price of a new purse could feed a family of three or four orphans being raised by an eightyear-old for a month. "Imagine what a toonie could do? Money we won't miss will do so much over there," said Roebbelen. Wendy Belcher of Munn's United Church also challenged other faith groups to get in on the action against AIDS in Africa. Mulvale said families could join together and fill ribbons with toonies as a way of educating young children. Giving up a night out of pizza and a movie in favour of a video rental and homemade pizza or popcorn could itself raise the $72 needed to fill a ribbon. Belcher, who is also part of a second Grandmothers to Grandmothers group in Oakville, said it, Bronte Broads for Africa and oomama, will fill ribbons with toonies. As Thanksgiving approaches, Mulvale said, "A tangible way of giving thanks is to take something on."
