The man was injured after he fell head first off his mountain bike after jumping a makeshift ramp north of Dundas Street and west of Tremaine Road on Sunday. Halton police say the victim landed on his head after jumping his mountain bike off a makeshift ramp on the trail, located north of Dundas Street and west of Tremaine Road, at about 8 a.m. A 37-year-old Oakville man is listed in serious condition at Hamilton General Hospital with undetermined injuries. A police spokesperson said the ramp was four metres long and one metre high and made out of wooden pallets. "It's a popular area for mountain bikers and they had a jump there and he landed on his front wheel," said Sgt. Brian Carr. Police say the cyclist was thrown over the handle bars and landed on his head. Realizing he was injured, a friend accompanying the victim, rode to Dundas Street to seek help. Halton Emergency Medical Services workers, police and Burlington firefighters trekked to the spot where the mountain biker was down. They took turns carrying the stretcher through the lengthy and difficult terrain. "It was challenging. The terrain was fairly rugged and it was a fairly long distance," said fire prevention officer Ben Rotsma. "Originally, it was hoped an air ambulance could land in the field, but it wasn't suitable for landing an aircraft."
