38 - The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday October 15, 2008 www.oakvillebeaver.com Dancer continues on major TV contest Musical moment Oakville's Caroline Torti survived the first week of cuts on the reality TV dance show So You Think Can Dance Canada. Torti, 23, along with partner Jesse Catibog, a Toronto dance instructor, were among the first couples to be told they would be returning this week to vie for the title of Canada's favourite dancer. Besides the honour of that title, the last one left standing will also take home $100,000. So You Think You Can Dance is a hit show in the United States that first aired in 2005. This is the first time it has come to Canada. The first two dancers of the season to be eliminated were Breanne Wong and Kevin Mylrea. Each week, the Canadian public votes for their favourite contestants. The Top 20 are wheedled down, one couple per week, to 10 through voting numbers and judges' decisions. Once the Top 10 remain, the winner is Caroline Torti determined by viewers' votes alone. So You Think You Can Dance Canada airs Wednesday at 8 p.m. on CTV. The live results show runs Thursday at 7:30 p.m. For information about the show, go online to www.ctv.ca/mini/dance2008/index.html. -Tina Depko Poetry Café scheduled for Sunday The Poetry Café will be held Sunday, Oct. 19 from noon to 2 p.m. at Moonshine Café, 137 Kerr St, corner Rebecca.
