OAKVILLE'S BEST REAL ESTATE SECTION INSIDE! Beaver THE OAKVILLE A member of Metroland Media Group Ltd. Vol. 47 No. 127 Teen knifed in robbery By David Lea OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF Halton Regional Police have made an arrest in connection with a violent Sunday morning robbery in which the victim was slashed with a knife. Police said an 18-year-old man was walking home from a friend's house when another individual confronted him in the Gable and Sheridan Garden Drive area. The man asked the youth to follow him into the nearby park and when the victim refused he pulled out a knife. Holding the knife close to the youth's face, the suspect demanded money, but again the teen refused. Not taking `no' for an answer, the suspect threw the youth to the ground and began going through the young man's pockets. When the suspect failed to find anything, he began slashing the youth with the knife causing what police characterized as minor lacerations. During the attack, the victim began screaming for police, attracting the attention of people in the park who rushed to his aid. The suspect fled the scene, but police made an arrest later in the day. Roy Anthony Wilson, 26, has been charged with robbery with a weapon and failure to comply with probation. The victim was taken to hospital where he was treated for his injuries and released. 1 YEAR NO PAY or NO GST! NIKKI WESLEY / OAKVILLE BEAVER SIGN OF HONOUR: Oakville Olympic silver-medalist kayaker Adam van Koeverden was honoured by the Town of Oakville Friday with the unveiling of a street sign on a road to be called Adam van Koeverden Street. It is currently Water Street and is near his home club, the Burloak Canoe Club, at Oakville Harbour. Olympian at home on Water Street By Jon Kuiperij BEAVER SPORTS EDITOR Adam van Koeverden's kayaking prowess helped put Oakville on the map and on Friday, the Town returned the favour. The 26-year-old now has a street ceremonially named after him -- perhaps the most fitting road in the entire town. Water Street, which winds west of Navy Street and down to the Burloak Canoe Club, where van Koeverden spent many of his adolescent years developing into a world-champion athlete, will also be known as Adam van Koeverden Street. "It's just really special," said van Koeverden, who was the guest of honour at a reception Friday evening at Town Hall. He was also presented with an award by the Oakville Sports Council the following day. See Remaking page 14 SERVING OAKVILLE FOR 25 YEARS! 175 Wyecroft Rd.
