A year earlier, the T.A. Blakelock student had unsuccessfully tried out for the two provincial teams that would compete in the national under-18 championships. Since then, she had dedicated herself to training, and now it was time to find out if her hard work had paid off. "She told me I made the team and I got happy and then I thought, `Wait, did I hear that right?'" Cudmore recalled. "I made her repeat it. She must have thought I was an idiot." A year after getting cut, Cudmore was named to Ontario Team Red, where she'll be teammates with eight players -- including Oakville's Brianne Jenner -- who represented Canada in a three-game series against the United States this summer. Oakville will also have two representatives on Ontario's Team Blue entry. Goaltender Nicole Paniccia will be going to nationals, to be held Nov. 5-9 in Napanee, for the second time, while Aurora Kennedy will patrol the blueline. Cudmore, a third-year defenceman with the Oakville Jr. Ice, said she felt much more comfortable at the tryouts this year, but she was still nervous about making the team. The 16-year-old spent the summer working out at Beyond the Next Level with her fellow Oakville provincial team members. Using plyometrics, she focused on improving her foot speed and explosiveness. "It helped me in my ability to fight off checks and beat people to the puck," she said. Individuals interested in running for a position on the Board of Directors should read the OSC By-Laws, Section 2 related to Board of Directors, in particular Article 2.2, Qualifications; 2.3 Election and Appointment of Directors and Article 2.9 Nomination of Directors. Interested individuals are invited to send a letter outlining his/her interest as well as a brief resume of qualification and compliance to requirements to the Chair of the Nomination's Committee, Mr. Harold Sanin at: nominations@oakvillesoccer.ca or by sealed mail at the Club office. All properly nominated individuals will have their name listed on the ballots.
