She was bor n March 15, 1912 at Moorefield near Palmerston Ontario, daughter of the late Alfred Morden Carthew and Ethel Margaret McIntyre. Predeceased by brothers Morden and Peter and sister Alice. Beloved aunt of Jacqueline Marinelli, Marlene Edwards, Anne Marie Heyneman, Don Car thew, Anne McLaughlin and Sandy Sutherland and great aunt of many. She graduated as a nurse from Hamilton General Hospital in 1932 and became the school nurse at St. Mildred's College, Toronto in 1936. Sr. Mary Adela entered the Community of the Sisters of t h e C h u r c h i n 1 9 3 8 a n d wa s p r o fessed on September 28, 1943. She held several positions of authority in the Community here in Canada and was in charge of the Lightbour n School in Oakville from 1964 to 1967. For some years Sister lived in St. Elizabeth Village in Hamilton and from 2001 was lovingly cared for in the infirmary of the Sisterhood of St. John the Divine in Toronto. Visitation will be held at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville (one block east of Kerr, 905-844-2600) on Thursday 2-4 and 7-9pm and on Friday 2-4 and 7-8 pm at St. John's Convent, 33 Cummer Avenue, Toronto. Requiem Mass at 10 am Saturday, November 22nd the Church of St. Mary Magdalene, 477 Manning Avenue (at Ulster). Gwen was born December 25, 1919 in Colchester, Ontario. She worked for the Ford Motor Company in Windsor, and then for many years at Becton-Dickinson in Clarkson while residing in Oakville. She was very active in the Oakville Zonta club, the Oakville Centre for the Perfor ming Ar ts, the Atkinson Foundation, and many other charitable organizations. She was named Oakville Volunteer of the Year in 1998, and was an avid fan of the jazz scene in Toronto. Her latest fervent hope was to attend the December Boss Brass reunion in Toronto. She is survived and sadly missed by her son Bob Reaume (Genie) and daughter Nancy Poole (Frank), both of Smithville, Ontario. She had 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter Connie Reaume. Following Gwen's wishes, there will be no services at this time.
