As part of the Smart Commute program, Town Hall now has dedicated carpool parking spots for employees and a carpool matching system, an emergency ride home program, transit-use initiatives, and bicycle storage lockers. Special recognition awards were also given to Oakville for having the Most Cyclists and earning the Best Mode Shift (to non-single occupant vehicle use) in the category of 200500 employees. "The Smart Commute program was initiated internally," said Dave Bloomer, infrastructure and transportation services commissioner for the Town of Oakville. "We have a very dedicated Smart Commute team whose goal was to increase staff awareness of other modes of transportation to and from work. We are very proud to receive this award for their efforts." The Town got involved in the Smart Commute program in 2007, under Halton's Smart Commute transportation management association, to reduce single occupant vehicle trips travelling during peak traffic conditions and to help improve local air quality. The positions are open for a term to last until completion of Phase 3 and 4 of the Schedule C Municipal Class Environmental Assessment Study project for the plant expansion OR for the current term of Regional Council, whichever is earlier. Skyway Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion, Burlington Phases 3 and 4 Class Environmental Assessment Study In 2007/08, Halton Region completed the South Halton Water and Wastewater Master Plan an expansion of the Skyway Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) to increase capacity from 118 to 140 MLD to service planned growth within the existing plant catchment area. The Skyway WWTP is located in Burlington on Lakeshore Road. Treated wastewater from the Skyway WWTP is discharged to Hamilton Harbour. The purpose of this Project Update is to announce that Halton Region is proceeding to Phases 3 and 4 of a Schedule C Municipal Class EA Study process for the Skyway Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion. The 2008 Master Plan Update completed Phases 1 and 2 of the Municipal Class EA Study process and provided a review of the need for the project, an assessment of the alternative solutions for meeting wastewater servicing needs, and a description of the preferred wastewater servicing solution. The Schedule C Class EA Study will complete Phases 3 and 4 of the Class EA Study Process and will include an assessment of alternative conceptual designs and layouts and implementation concepts for achieving the capacity expansion and considering the targets outlined in the Hamilton Harbour Remedial Action Plan (RAP). An Environmental Study Report (ESR) will be prepared which will include a detailed evaluation of environmental impacts and mitigation measures. The ESR will be made available for a mandatory public review period at the end of the Class EA Study process. A vital component of this study will involve consultation with interested stakeholders including the public and regulatory agencies. Two Public Information Centres (PICs) will be scheduled during the Schedule C Class EA Study to review how decisions will be made, present the alternative conceptual designs that will be considered, review the assessment of environmental impacts and mitigation measures, answer questions and receive public input. Details of the PICs will be advertised at a future date.
