A few weeks into the new year and so much is happening at Eastview. The intermediate girls' and boys' basketball teams have been are ready for the 2009 season. Go Eastview. The jazz and concert bands are deep into rehearsals for trips to Ontario Place and Canada's Wonderland to compete against other schools. Clubs are also busy. The Grade 7s' school trip to Muskoka Woods is in February. The Grade 8s have been visiting their future high schools, T. A. Blakelock and White Oaks Secondary School, to prepare for the transition. The Grade 8s are also visiting the Oakville Curling Club next month. In the meantime, they are learning how to be hard-working adults in The Real Game. This game turns their class into a community teaching students how to exist in the real world by earning money from randomly-selected careers and how to save money, buy houses, cars and other things. The Grade 8s are excited to be playing The Real Game and can't wait to learn more about it. Meanwhile, junior students are also looking forward to what the new year offers. Currently, our junior girls and boys' volleyball teams are practic- Safety Village and a trip to Westfield Heritage in March. The Scientist in the Classroom series will present to the Grade 3s and teach them all about forces. For all students, a presentation on electricity safety and conservation by Oakville Hydro is on the calendar. It will present using a variety of aids such as a small-scale town with hydro hazards all around and may even demonstrate the electrocution of a dill pickle. The Grade 2s are looking forward to their home-reading program, which was supported by funds acquired by the School Council parents. Overall, Eastview is a very busy, yet active, school where students keep busy with clubs, teams, field trips, presentations and more. The juniors are also finishing up their floor hockey intramurals as they make their way into the playoffs. They are also part of the student parliament and environmental club and are adding their ideas as future intermediates, to improve our school. Juniors have many field trips planned. The Grade 6s are visiting a conservatory in February and the Grade 5s did so last week. The junior board games club is meeting every Wednesday. It's a great time to be with friends and play favourite board games.
