On Tuesday, Feb. 3, the Canadian Cancer Society Oakville Unit will kick off its 2009 Daffodil Month campaign with a residential rally and open house at the Oakville Town Hall. While the Residential Campaign takes place throughout April, an official kickoff and information rally will be held on Feb. 3 in Town Hall's South Atrium, at 1225 Trafalgar Rd. It will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Current volunteers and those looking for new volunteer opportunities are encouraged to attend the fun and informative evening to learn about what's new for 2009. Featured at the rally will be a presentation by Canadian Cancer Societyfunded researcher, Dr. Laura Dawson. "Our April campaign requires a lot of help from volunteers in our community," said Lisa Moffatt, fundraising coordinator. "We have lots of great opportunities available for people looking to give back this spring. A donation of your time in honour of a loved one touched by cancer is a great gift to give." It is estimated that there are 400,000 Canadians living with congestive heart failure. "Heart failure is on the rise and although effective treatment exists, heart failure remains a progressive condition for many," said Heffernan. "We are fortunate to have an outstanding multidisciplinary team at the Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital's Heart Function Clinic to manage the care of these patients."
