4 - The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday February 25, 2009 www.oakvillebeaver.com Is your rock band the Best of the West? The Oakville Beaver, Burlington Post, Milton Canadian Champion, and Flamborough Review community newspapers are teaming up to introduce local, talented musicians who will rock your socks off. If you are between the ages of 15 and 25, are part of a band and would like to showcase your group's awesome sound, Metroland's Best of the West Battle of the Bands competition is the contest for you. All you have to do is broadcast your best one-to-three minute video performance by posting it on the popular video-sharing website, YouTube. Remember, keep your videos short, in good taste -- it's a family newspaper after all -- and totally original. Entries must also include the name of the band, a list of band member names, song name, additional contact information and a brief band bio. When you are ready to enter, visit the Best of the West link at the top of the Features section on the right-hand side of the oakvillebeaver.com website. By clicking on the words "view best of the west" bands will be taken straight to the entry form. The entry form must be completely filled out and submitted to us no later than Friday, March 6. After that, each newspaper will host a one-week online showdown between all of the bands that have entered from its community. Local music fans will be encouraged to visit the website to view information about the local bands and link to each of their short videos on YouTube before casting a vote for the best band. The band with the most votes from each participating community will be featured in the print edition of its hometown newspaper. The four regional finalists will then advance to Metroland's Best of the West Battle of the Bands championship in which all four bands will be featured on each of the participating newspapers' websites for another week of voting. And here's the best part, Metroland's Best of the West Battle of the Bands champion will be invited to participate on stage at this year's Burlington Sound of Music Festival in June and will be featured again -- this time in all four of the participating community newspapers. Stay tuned for additional contest information and don't forget to visit www.oakvillebeaver.com by March 6 to enter your band.
