Hosted and organized by the True Sport Foundation, the 2008 Canadian Sport Awards recognized excellence in sport, and honoured amateur athletes, leaders and corporations who competed and inspired hope during the 2008 calendar year. The Corporate Excellence Award recognizes and celebrates corporations that provide outstanding support to Canadian Sport over the course of a given year. During 2008, Mitsubishi Motors Sales of Canada Inc. (MMSCAN) donated $480,000 cash to Right To Play in direct support of their activities. Right To Play is an international humanitarian organization headed by four time Olympic gold medalist Johann Koss. Right To Play, which is the official sports charity of Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada Inc. for 2009, uses sport and play programs and volunteer Athlete Ambassadors to improve life for children and communities in over 23 countries. Athletes receiving awards included Olympic equestrian show jumper Eric Lamaze who was named Male Athlete of the Year, and Paralympian Chantal Petitclerc, a Right To Play Athlete Ambassador, who was named Female Athlete of the Year. Other finalists for the Corporate Excellence Award included Speedo and The Forzani Group. MMSCAN was nominated for the Corporate Excellence Award by Right To Play and AthletesCAN.
