7 OAKVILLE BEAVER · Wednesday, March 4, 2009 Two youths arrested in iPod robberies Halton police have arrested two 17-year-old boys in connection with a pair of robberies, which took place in the Nottinghill Gate area on Thursday. Police said at around 11 a.m. four youths were walking on the foot path, adjacent to Nottinghill Gate, when they were approached by a boy who asked them if they had any drugs. A second suspect was standing nearby. When the four youths told the boy they didn't have any drugs the suspect proceeded to search each of them eventually forcing one of the youths to turn over his iPod. With the iPod in hand, both suspects fled the area. During the investigation, Halton police learned the suspects might have been responsible for an earlier robbery. Another robbery had taken place only minutes earlier with another boy in his teens reporting that two suspects had approached him in the same area. As in the previous case, the suspects asked him for drugs and stole his iPod when he failed to hand over anything. No one was injured during the course of these robberies. The police investigation eventually led to the arrest of a 17-yearold Mississauga teen and a 17-year-old Oakville teen. Both youths, who cannot be identified because of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, have been charged with two counts of robbery while the Oakville youth has been charged with carrying a concealed weapon. Police said no weapon was used during the robberies, but the youth was in possession of a knife at the time of his arrest. Halton police are asking parents to review with younger children the important street safety precautions discussed in school. Children are reminded to play safe and play together and to not play in remote areas of parks or take short cuts through wooded areas. Do not loiter on the way to or from school. Do not go anywhere with a stranger and do not accept rides, candy, money or toys from a stranger for any reason. Advise an adult of any suspicious strangers right away. Children should always tell their parents where they are and where they are going. Halton police are continuing to investigate this incident.
