OAKVILLE BEAVER · Friday, March 6, 2009 10 Beware of bogus health inspector Co munity Sur m Ward 3 Oakville Community Consultation A community consultation process is underway in Ward 3 Oakville regarding the accommodation of elementary students affecting Brantwood, Chisholm, E.J. James, Linbrook, Maple Grove, and New Central public schools. The Halton District School Board has three expressed intents in conducting this process. They are: Enhanced Services Responding to Changes in the Community Broad Public Input Halton police are warning area merchants to beware of con artists posing as health inspectors following a Wednesday incident at an Oakville Hasty Market. Female scam artist targeting Hasty Markets Police said a woman entered the Hasty Market at 1500 Sixth Line, around noon and approached the store manager claiming to be a `food and water safety technician.' The woman also presented a business card, which said she was from the `Canadian Food Safety Resource Centre' in Ottawa. Having established her identity, the woman then tried to coerce the store manager into purchasing a testing kit, which she said was used to detect bacteria, especially listeria in food. The suspect wanted to sell the kit for $39.95. When the store manager became suspicious and declined the purchase, the woman stated he could be found liable for health code violations and financial penalties if he did not buy the test kit. When this tactic failed the woman left the store. Police note similar incidents have taken place at other Hasty Market locations across Ontario. The woman, who made the fraudulent solicitation at the Oakville Hasty Market, is described as black, approximately 5-foot with a medium build and dark shoulder-length hair. She was wearing a beige coat with a red scarf at the time of the incident. Halton Regional Police Service is continuing to investigate this incident. Anyone with information related to it is asked to contact the Oakville Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905825-4777, ext. 2215 or by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222 TIPS (8477). Ward 3 Oakville residents are encouraged to participate in the community consultation process by completing a survey. The survey indicates six accommodation alternatives for Ward 3 Oakville elementary schools. Ward 3 Oakville residents (who do not have students in elementary schools) are asked to pick up the survey and supporting documentation package at any Ward 3 Oakville elementary school. (Note: Surveys were mailed to parents of students attending Ward 3 Oakville schools on Friday, February 27, 2009.) Surveys must be returned by Friday, March 13, 2009 to any Ward 3 Oakville school. Residents may indicate on the survey if they wish to participate in a focus group in April. www.fredastaire.ca vey Dancing with the Stars! special offer specialoffer 5 SESSIONS OF DANCING $ NEW STUDENT OFFER By yourself or with a partner 25 New Students Over 21 Only HAMILTON: OAKVILLE: 1092 Main Street W. 225 Lakeshore Rd.
