Despite enduring a courageous battle, he passed away from pancreatic cancer at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital in Oakville in his 74th year. He emigrated from Poland in 1960 and while here, he met the love of his life. He was a beloved husband to Helena for 44 wonderful years, father to daughters Susan (husband, Sarang) and Teresa (husband, Steve). He was blessed with 4 grandchildren, Derek, Mark, Ashley and Michelle. Jan will be missed by many. His love for gardening, Cuban cigars, vacationing in the tropics and war stories resonated with all of us. The funeral mass was held on Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony Church, 40 John Street, Oakville followed by the interment at Trafalgar Lawn Cemetery, 1149 Dundas St. West., Oakville. Laird, D. Michael- Died peacefully at St. Andrews Terrace Nursing Home on Friday March 6, 2009 at the age of 82. Beloved husband of the late Barbara Laird (nee Bowman). Loving father of Anne Laird (John Cheyne) and David Laird. Michael will be sadly missed by his granddaughters Helen, Carol and Erica Cheyne. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
