OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday, April 8, 2009 · 4 Warrant issued for suspect in bungled burglaries Halton police have issued an arrest warrant for a 35-year-old man after three homes were broken into in northeast Oakville area on Friday. Police said these incidents began at 11 a.m. when a man rang the doorbell of a home on Pinery Crescent. After getting no response, the man forced the door open, but quickly retreated when he found the homeowner was actually inside. "The resident at the home contacted the Halton Regional Police Service," said Det. Sgt. Kevin Maher, Oakville Criminal Investigations Bureau. "Officers were on patrol in the area and they immediately observed the suspect getting into a car and leaving the residence." Police said the suspect sped away and eventually abandoned his vehicle on Martindale Avenue at which point he continued to flee from police on foot. Police lost track of the suspect during this pursuit, but he was spotted a short time later breaking into another house on Kathleen Crescent. "At that house, he stole a set of car keys," said Maher. "He never got the car because he realized the homeowner was home." This homeowner immediately called police, but police were unable to locate the suspect despite creating a perimeter around the area that saw numerous police cruisers and officers placed at various street exit points in an effort to contain the suspect. The discovery of a third break and enter, on Laurelwood Drive, has led investigators to believe the suspect was able to elude police by hiding in a garage. No citizens were harmed during this chase. After examining the abandoned car, police issued an arrest warrant for a suspect currently believed to be in the Scarborough area. The Halton Regional Police Service is continuing to investigate these incidents. Anyone with information related to them is asked to call the Oakville Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-825-4747, ext. 2205 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
