The recently-dubbed Miss Teen Oakville is preparing to participate in the Miss Teen Canada International Pageant where she will face off against 39 other young women from across Canada. The outcome, Burke noted, is important to her as much more is on the line than bragging rights or a cash prize. "I want to inspire other people and show that even though I have a disability I can still do everything else other kids can do," she said. "I also want to raise awareness of the Foundation Fighting Blindness." Burke suffers from Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP), a genetic disorder in which abnormalities in the eyes' photoreceptors lead to progressive vision loss. The disorder is different for everyone, with some living all their lives with some degree of eyesight while others go completely blind, sometimes in childhood. So far, she has 800. It was supposed to be a night of celebration. On Sunday, May 3, Sean Reyes, 27, had a lot to be happy about. For one thing, it was his birthday and he was in the company of his longtime girlfriend, Angie Ramkerrysingh, 26, his sister and several other good friends. Beyond that he had a good job as a Toronto ad rep and he had recently won a gold medal in the Golden Sean Reyes Gloves and Prime Time Prospects and Angie boxing tournament in Kitchener. Ramkerrysingh Those who know him describe Reyes as a fun person to be around. "Sean is the type of guy that everybody knows and loves. He is very much a fighter, very ambitious and a very hard worker. He's very determined and he's always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need," said Ramkerrysingh. "He's the most supportive, loving, caring boyfriend anybody could ever ask for." Today Reyes is clinging to life in a Toronto hospital following an apparently unprovoked assault at the Oakville AMC Entertainment Complex on the night of his birthday. Ramkerrysingh, whose apartment is close to the complex, said she, Reyes, his sister and his friends had been celebrating Reyes' birthday at the apartment throughout the night and were preparing to move the party elsewhere when the incident took place. Ramkerrysingh said she was making her way to her car with Reyes when a man got into a verbal argument with one of Reyes' friends. "Sean just asked something to the extent of, `Is there a problem?' and the guy said, `I don't know, is there?' and then just basically ripped off his shirt and ran at him and See Police page 4 Feature of the Week Hayward EVACTM www.ultimatepools.c 42 Speers Rd, Unit 4,Oakville 28 Ultimate Pool Service Inc.
