OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday, May 27, 2009 · 8 OTMH Classic coming up on Father's Day At the OTMH (Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital) Classic, kids can run for fun and raise money to support the local hospital. Presented by Oak-Land Ford Lincoln, the annual fundraising event is held on Father's Day (June 21) to raise funds to purchase vital medical equipment for OTMH's cardiology department. One of the most popular event activities is the Fun Run for children ages 12 and under. Last year, nearly 125 children raced against each other -- and the clock -- through the streets of southeast Oakville. As the children cross the finish line, they are awarded a participant medal and greeted by throngs of cheering family members, the Toronto Raptors Mascot and Ronald McDonald. It's a day to remember for everyone involved. "My children love participating in the Fun Run -- it's become a Father's Day tradition for our entire family," said David Sanci, coowner of Oak-land Ford Lincoln. "My three children, Sally, Will and Lucy, have participated every year since its inception in 2006. We all just love watching them cross the finish line with such big smiles on their faces." OTMH Classic Fun Run participants Sebastian Kirk Ray and Cameron Pike are pushing themselves to run faster and raise more for OTMH because the hospital has played a critical role in the lives of their family members. Running for great-grandmother Sebastian, as well as his sister, Madeline, were both born at OTMH. This year, they are both running in honour of their great-grandmother Mabel, who recently celebrated her 99th birthday. "Great-grandma Mabel likes the hospital," said Sebastian, who turned four this year. "All of the nurses and doctors take very good care of her," "I am running this year to help the hospital get equipment to help people in need, like people who have had an accident or who are sick," said Cameron, 9. "I want to help out because the hospital doctors and nurses saved my mom's life. This year the hospital is helping me, too," he said. As of now, Sebastian and Cameron are among the Top 10 pledge collectors on the OTMH Classic website. If you would like to make a pledge in support of their efforts, visit www.otmhclassic.com. The Oakville Hospital Foundation raises funds for the Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital of Halton Healthcare Services. With community support, the foundation works to ensure essential healthcare services and resources are available today for patients, community and staff and will be there tomorrow to meet the community's growing needs.
