3 · OAKVILLE BEAVER Thursday, June 4, 2009 STUDENT EXCELLENCE 2009 Halton District School Board honours Oakville students Earlier this month, the Halton District School Board held its 25th annual Celebration of Student Excellence, a special evening that recognized one student from each of the board's elementary and secondary schools. The honoured students are representative of exceptional in areas including: academic, vocational and athletic fields, self-improvement, citizenship and student leadership. Pictures and write-ups of the Oakville recipients will be published over the next few weeks in the Thursday edition of the Oakville Beaver. Mishka Human, Maple Grove: Mishka is a natural leader who exudes confidence in the classroom. She often extends activities and shows a willingness to succeed in everything she does. Her actions are contagious in the classroom and have proven to be effective on her fellow classmates. She is also involved with extra curricular activities and showcases responsibility by following through on her promises. Zoha Khan, Munn's: Zoha was selected because she is an outstanding role model in our school community. She always sets high goals for herself and gives her very best to achieving those goals. At the same time, she encourages and supports others. By consistently demonstrating cooperation, inclusiveness, a positive attitude, and determination to succeed, Zoha is a deserving recipient of the award on behalf of Munn's students. Anna Mavian Buzbuzian, New Central: Anna demonstrates the qualities of good citizenship and treats everyone with respect and dignity. She consistently puts forth her best effort and has excelled in all areas of academics. Anna participates actively in several aspects of school life, allowing her quiet confidence to inspire her peers to vote for her as Student Parliament Prime Minister. It is a role she has taken on with the same sense of purpose she brings to her school work. Nicole Willows, Oakwood: Nicole exemplifies the qualities of an Oakwood student, by setting a positive example for her classmates, and by conscientiously following the four Tribes Agreements. She works each week with the Breakfast for Learning Program, as an Office Monitor, QDF leader, and a member of the Battle of the Books Club. Nicole is always very friendly, helpful and, most importantly, focused on learning and becoming the best student that she can be. Neha Singh, Pilgrim Wood: Neha has achieved honours standing in her Grade 8 year at Pilgrim Wood while at the same time record, Pooja is very involved with life in the school and community. Pooja is an hounour student at Post's Corners. She participates actively as a member of the cross country and basketball teams, a band member, intramural organizer and referee, lunch room monitor, Grade 2 drama club helper and volleyball scorekeeper. She has a desire to learn. She asks questions. She strives to go above and beyond in her work. She contributes to the school community in countless ways and knows that she has made a positive difference in the life of Post's Corners. Firoza Dodhi, River Oaks: Firoza is a hard working, dedicated student who is very well respected by her peers and teachers alike. Not only is she strong academically, but as a member of the River Oaks Leadership Council. Firoza is an important part of all the activities that are run at River Oaks. Firoza lights up the school with her positive attitude and her outstanding personality. Joshua Petitjean, Sheridan: Joshua was selected because he consistently puts forth his best effort in all subject areas, works co-operatively with peers and often demonstrates positive leadership skills and attitudes. He demonstrates a kind and caring attitude and is well liked and respected by peers. Josh participates actively in co-curricular activities and frequently assumes additional responsibilities within the school. Stefan Jevtic, Sunningdale: Stefan was selected as Sunningdale's Student of Excellence for 2009 because he demonstrates responsibility, a positive attitude and a commitment toward his learning community. He is an exemplary mentor and positive role model for the younger students as well as his peers. Stefan is an involved citizen with the desire to succeed in all facets of school and community life. Jenna Courage,W.H. Morden: Jenna combines excellence in academic achievement with a high degree of involvement in student life at Morden as well as commitment to the larger community. Jenna is a fine musician, athlete, student and citizen. Jenna is a deserving recipient of the Student of Excellence and is a great role model for Morden students. David Zilkey, West Oak: David merits the distinction of Student of Excellence for his exemplary successes and contributions to academics, athletics, the arts, as well as the moral tone and culture of West Oak Public School. David demonstrates a most natural passion toward learning which he exhibits daily in all facets. He also extends his skills and talents to the volleyball court, the band, the student council and the school play. Furthermore. David's strong moral character, concern for others and globally mindful attitude distinguish him as a highly respected and very revered young man.
