OAKVILLE BEAVER Thursday, July 16, 2009 · 16 Health Oakville Beaver OTMH Auxiliary gives students a boost with bursaries The Auxiliary to the Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital recognized several of its exemplary youth volunteers at its annual meeting with the presentation of the 2009 Auxiliary Bursaries and the Isobel Winnett Award. Six Auxiliary bursaries, in the amount of $1,000 each, and the Isobel Winnett Award, in the amount of $1,250, were awarded to youth volunteers who are graduating from high school and continuing on to post-secondary education. Each recipient met certain criteria and went through a panel interview process before being selected. The recipients of the 2009 OTMH Auxiliary bursaries were Amal Qutub (White Oaks Secondary School), Thomas Park (T.A. Blakelock High School), Emma Schoo (Iroquois Ridge High School), Alyssa Smith (Abbey Park High School), Nashwa Khan (Iroquois Ridge High School) and Tina Ziebart (Iroquois Ridge High School). Also awarded at the meeting was the Isobel Winnett Award. The award was established as part of the Auxiliary's 50th anniversary in November 1999 in honour of the Auxiliary's longest serving member, Isobel Winnett. Mrs. Winnett, who passed away January 2009, was part of the Auxiliary for more than 57 years. During her time with the hospital, she inspired the qualities that were sought in the award recipients: dedication, commitment, loyalty and a generous spirit.
