Warren Labbett In his 99th year, Warren passed away peacefully at his residence in Oakville, July 21, 2009. Predeceased by his loving wife of 57 years, Margaret (1992), his brother Jack, and most regrettably, his youngest son Peter. Warren, the second son of Ada and James Labbett, is survived and fondly remembered by brother Clifford (June), son Bob, daughterin-law Barbara, grandchildren Craig (Cheryl), Sharon, and S a n d r a ( B o b ) L a u r e n c e , d a u g h t e r- i n - l a w C a t h y, g r a n d children Michelle (Steve) Dawson, and Keith (Cynthia). "Big Grandpa" will be missed by Adam, Kristie, Jackie, Jaimie, Kimmie, Scott, Reid, Hayley, Connor and Reagan. Growing up in the Beach area of Toronto, Warren enjoyed sports, and was a member of the champion Malvern Grads football teams, (predecessors of Toronto Balmy Beach) in the late 1 9 2 0 ' s . H e a l s o r o w e d f o r t h e To r o n t o D o n s , A r g o s , paddled for Parkdale and Balmy Beach, and sailed in the cross Lake Ontario races of the time. In later years, he was an accomplished curler at Scarboro Golf Club and at his death, was an honourar y member of that club. Warren spent his working life in the Insurance Industry. Initially joini n g t h e P h o e n i x I n s u r a n c e C o m p a n y, h e s o o n f o u n d e d Labbett Insurance Ltd., a casualty insurance brokerage where in later years he was joined for a time by sons Bob and Peter. Warren was a licenced Insurance Broker in Ontario for a record 70 years. He also served as President of the North American and Wentworth Insurance Companies and as a Canadian associate of Lloyds of London. Politically active in the Toronto area over the years, Warren served as President of the Toronto and Ontario Conservative Associations, and managed many successful individual campaigns. Active in the Toronto Board of Trade for over 40 years, Warren also served for many years on the Board of the Toronto East General Hospital, and the session of St. Aidan's Anglican Church.
