Frank died when the Cessna 206 plane he was piloting crashed. The cause of the crash is, as yet, unknown. He had three passengers, a close friend who was serving as co-pilot, and two filmmakers who were documenting the plight of the nearly 2,000,000 people attempting to live on $1/day. Frank leaves behind his wife, Tiffany and their four children Aline (13), Tabitha (10), Teagan (6) and Loewen (5). Frank and Tiffany spent one year serving with World Team in Indonesia and the past six years in Nairobi, Kenya as missionaries with Africa Inland Mission's (AIM) flight program "AIM AIR". (AimAir.org) Born and raised in Oakville, Ontario, he attended Blakelock High School in, Oakville and Moody Bible Institute in, Chicago Illinois and graduated with advanced pilot training in 2000. His first assignment as a missionary pilot was to fly for World Team Mission in Irian Jaya, Indonesia. Frank was a reserved, gentle spirited man in his public life, and for those who knew him well he was fun loving, a joy to be around and always had a great sense of humor with many passions in his life; a passion for his Lord Jesus Christ; a passion for his family, his parents, his siblings, nieces and nephews; a passion for flying; and a passion to serve others, at the expense of his own comfort and personal benefit. Over the years Frank was asked two questions over and over again: "Why do you need to use an airplane?" and "What is missionary aviation?" He would often be heard answering...Imagine you lived out in the middle of nowhere. The closest major town was three days drive over the worst "roads" imaginable, and to make matters worse there are bandits along your route of travel. How do you get supplies? What do you do if you have a medical emergency? The answer, you fly! Many of the missionaries and Christian organizations that Frank served live and minister in some of the most remote and isolated areas imaginable. Because there are no roads many places are inaccessible, or the roads are washed out during the rainy season. Some areas are too dangerous to travel through because of civil war, tribal clashes, and armed bandits. Other times the needs are urgent, necessitating immediate extraction and quick transportation to a place of safety or somewhere that medical attention is available. Frank was willing to take his God-given skills and talents and use them to further God's kingdom. To him, it was the "job" of a lifetime. It was about flying in some of the most primitive and hostile conditions imaginable and landing on airstrips barely wider than your tires. It meant sometimes getting down and dirty helping people in any way you could. It was all the joys of flying, the adventure of Africa and the dangers that coincide with it. But it was always about serving those who serve, being a lifeline to the missionaries and medical teams who were ministering on the front lines. Frank also leaves behind his parents Frank and Lore Toews, sister Shelley and Ian Seguin and brother David and Lisa Toews, along with five nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind Tiffany's parents Howard and Charlotte Blackburn, and sister, Kimberley and Tim Jensen and eight nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held in Nairobi, Kenya on Tuesday, August 11, 2009. Memorial services are planned in Florida and at Compass Point Church in Burlington, Ontario. Dates are yet to be determined. Details concerning the establishment of a Trust Fund for Tiffany and the children will also be communicated in the near future. INTERNET!
