New this year, the Bronte Fishermen's Memorial will be featured as a new site at Doors Open Oakville. This beautiful granite memorial site on the pathway to Bronte Pier and Lighthouse in Heritage Waterfront Park was constructed in memory of the Bronte commercial fishermen who made their living on the waves of the lake. The Bronte Fishermen's Memorial is located on the east side of Bronte Harbour. It was built in 2007 and designed by architect Ken Pollock. Visit from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on ural spaces and heritage gardens -- some of which are rarely accessible to the public -- open for free as part of Doors Open. Last year's inaugural Doors Open Oakville event was a huge success with more than 8,000 visitors contributing more that $200,000 to the local economy. This year, there are even more intriguing sites and many of them will offer special activities, such as tours, exhibitions and demonstrations.
