Kyle Jones says the sport of triathlon has been raised to a whole new level, and the local resident would like nothing better to be one of those pushing its boundaries. Jones is already among one of Canada's best in the sport and, after a 25th-place finish at the International Triathlon Union's World Championship Series Grand Final in Australia on the weekend, he is not far from joining the world's upper echelon. Jones said the race was "the fastest, most competitive race I've ever been in." The 24-year-old said he could have finished higher if not for one miscalculation. The runners set a fast pace that Jones didn't believe they would be able to maintain. "Coming out of the transition (from the bike to the run), I took a more conservative approach. I thought I could pick them off as they blew up, but they didn't." Jones did move up during the run but was unable to reel in the leaders. Still, he came in just two minutes and two seconds behind the winner, Alistair Brownlee of Great Britain. Jones was actually just one second behind Brownlee entering the run.
