21 · OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, September 25, 2009 A banner year for UWO R ecently, United Way of Oakville (UWO) announced our 2009 campaign goal of $3,603,731. It is an aggressive goal, but we know we can reach it. Our confidence stems from overwhelming support already shown by the community and our generous donors and sponsors. United Way is about reaching out and harnessing the power of every segment of our town. An example of this can be seen by the banners proudly displayed in Oakville's three BIA areas -- Kerr Village, Downtown Oakville and Bronte Village. Last year John Breakey, President of Unis Lumin, agreed to sponsor banners inviting people to explore Kerr Village BIA while remembering to support UWO. Those banners are displayed for a second year and have been joined, courtesy of Genworth Financial's support, with 86 new banners in both the Downtown Oakville BIA and Bronte Village BIA. President of Genworth Financial, Peter Vukanovich, who also serves on the 2009 UWO Campaign Cabinet, did not hesitate when asked to go beyond his company's traditional corporate gift and employee campaign to sponsor the banners. The partnership with the BIAs is truly THE END OF AN ERA! AFTER 174 YEARS! empowering as it increases the visibility of the UWO campaign to everyone who shops and visits these unique areas. Sponsorship is critical to UWO as it enables more donor dollars to go to community programs and initiatives and increases our investment in the community. Partnership with UWO is an opportunity to support our community in new, innovative and impactful ways. The collective partnership of the three BIAs and corporate donors is priceless. We are all driving towards achieving the same goal -- raising $3,603,731 for our community. We need to work together to meet the needs of the Oakville people -- One town, One heart, One Way. The next time you are driving or shopping in Kerr Village, Downtown Oakville or Bronte Village and you see the UWO banners, take a minute to reflect on what they represent. They stand for the 31 human and social service agencies that support 30,000 people right here in Oakville. We are in this together. It is our friends, our family, our co-workers and our neighbours who we are helping. One town, One heart, One Way...the United Way.
