And though Arakgi's second season with the B.C. Lions ended last weekend with a semifinal loss to the Montreal Alouettes, the Loyola grad has one more showdown left. Arakgi and Montreal punt returner Larry Taylor are the finalists for the CFL's outstanding special teams player (The winner was announced last night, after press time). Arakgi used his speed to make so many this year that he was on pace to break the CFL record for special teams tackles (37) until a pulled quad muscle hampered him in the final two games of the regular season. He still finished with 35 tackles, improving on the 31 from his rookie season and also recovered two fumbles. His play made him the first cover man to be named a CFL all-star since 2006. The McMaster Marauder alumni didn't have to go far to get advice on the importance of special teams play. His father, Nick Arakgi, also started off his CFL career on special teams before going on to three all-star seasons as a tight end in an eight-year career. "When I got drafted (in the third round in SPECIAL DELIVERY: Loyola grad Jason Arakgi distinguished himself with the B.C. Lions, making 35 tackles to earn a nomination as CFL special teams player of the year, a rarity for a player on the cover team.
