Nease is giving back 15 · Thursday, December 3, 2009 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.oakvillebeaver.com Continued from page 14 kindness and concern received from family, friends and our medical community. Words cannot express how grateful and touched I was, and continue to be, by this support." Dian and a group of supporters, The Brainiacs, kicked into high gear. Donations were plentiful to make the party a success, right down to the baking of Cranium Cookies, which were a huge fundraising hit. Dian and her family were, and remain, astounded at the support of the Oakville community that rallied behind them throughout their ordeal and for the fundraiser. It was touching, and even more meaningful at a time that Dian describes as horrific, scary and terrifying. Now, with the brain surgery and recovery behind her, Dian, again with the humour she makes part of her life, said she's very lucky her aneurysm was found, "Sometimes I feel extremely grateful to be here. During this uncomfortable odyssey, I was bolstered by the amazing kindness and concern received from family, friends and our medical community. Words cannot express how grateful and touched I was, and continue to be, by this support." Children of Christmas Past Local businesses are once again helping out with the gathering of Christmas gifts for some seniors. The Children of Christmas Past is in its 10th year of supplying gifts and making visits to lonely or isolated seniors throughout Halton Region. The goal this year is to hand deliver more than 2,000 gifts. To help achieve that goal, Halton businesses are donating space and time to put up gift trees in their storefronts. When you visit one of the businesses and see the Children of Christmas Past Gift Tree, you can remove a tag with a senior's name on it and their desired gift. Go out and buy the present, wrap it, place the nametag on the present and take the parcel to the home of Jill Harrington, the founder of The Children of Christmas Past. The Oakville Beaver is participating by putting up a gift tree in its front lobby. Burlington businesses that have donated their space for a gift tree are The Price Chopper grocery store (3505 Upper Middle Rd.), Pet Paradise (Millcroft Plaza, 2020 Appleby Line), Holland Park Garden Gallery (2243 Fairview St.) and Gifts for the Soul (3031 Dundas St., just east of Guelph Line). There is an upcoming fundraiser for the project. The second annual Children of Christmas Past fundraiser is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 4, from 6-9 p.m., at the Royal Botanical Gardens. It will feature Canadian singer Amy Sky, Oakville singer Suzanne Brown and the Burlington Barbershop Choir. It will also include a silent auction. This year Harrington hopes to be able to raise enough money to, in part, provide electric wheelchairs to two Halton seniors. Tickets cost $22.50 for adults and $7.50 for children. For tickets, call Jill Harrington at 905-331-1963 or email christmasforseniors@cogeco.ca. Dian Nease that the surgery to address it was successful and has now checked it off her bucket list and is moving on -- and quite happy to be doing it at 50.
