www.oakvillebeaver.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday, January 27, 2010 · 18 Three local teams in Gold Pool of Bur Bear hockey tournament The Loyola Hawks, Iroquois Ridge Trailblazers and Appleby College Blue Dogs will battle five other teams for the Bur Bear High School Hockey Tournament Gold Pool championship starting tomorrow (Thursday) in Burlington. The highest-calibre Gold, or A Pool, is one of three divisions that will decide tournament championships when the tournament wraps up at Appleby Ice Centre this Saturday (Jan. 30). The Bur Bear, which has been annually providing one of the top high school hockey tournaments for boys since 1985, is a 32-team event this year. Other teams in the gold pool are the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Nelson Lords from Burlington, Kitchener's Grand River, Welland's Notre Dame and North Bay's Widdifield Secondary School. The Purple, or B Pool, features 16 teams including two Oakville squads, the Abbey Park Eagles and St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders. The Robert Bateman Wild, M.M. Robinson Rams and Assumption Crusaders from Burlington will also vie for the B Pool title. Eight more schools will compete in the White Pool, including the Aldershot Aces, L.B. Pearson Patriots and Corpus Christi Longhorns from Burlington. There are no teams entered from Oakville. The Gold Pool final wraps up the tournament. It is scheduled for 3:45 p.m. at Appleby Ice Centre. The White Pool final is at 12:45 p.m. and the Purple Pool final is scheduled for 2 p.m. Schedule and results will be posted at http://rbh.hdsb.ca, the website of Robert Bateman High School, the traditional organizer of the event.
