The Loyola Hawks have been one of the top-ranked senior boys' basketball teams in the province all season, but their Halton league rivals don't seem too intimidated. The Nelson Lords became the second Halton team to defeat the highly-touted Hawks this season, downing Loyola 72-65 Tuesday at Nelson in a game that likely determined first place in the league standings. Nelson attacked the Hawks' press with great success in the third quarter, building a 17-point lead at one point, and then sur- vived a furious Loyola rally in the final frame. The Hawks pulled within two points with 26 seconds remaining before the Lords salted the game away at the free-throw line. "This definitely gives us the confidence we can play with them," said Nelson coach Bob Stacey, whose team carried a 9-1 record into yesterday's (Thursday's) final regular-season game against the Assumption Crusaders. "In this case, we beat them."
