That might explain the Burlington woman who breezed through a red light while chatting on the phone. Or the Milton man trying to turn his car left with a phone to his right ear and a piece of paper in his other hand. "It's scenarios like these that create a recipe for disaster," stated Halton Regional Police Sergeant Brian Carr in a news release highlighting both those situations. Halton police issued 245 tickets last month under the distracted driver law, which came into effect on Feb. 1. They included: · 139 tickets issued in Burlington · 57 tickets issued in Oakville · 37 tickets issued in Milton · 13 tickets issued in Halton Hills For context, the Ontario Provincial Police, which patrols major highways, issued 470 tickets over the same time period.
