Mayor's softball tourney to benefit duo of charities This year, Community Living Oakville (CLO) and Kerr Street Ministries (KSM) will be equal beneficiaries of the 2010 Mayor's Invitational Softball Tournament (MIST). In 2009 the tournament raised more than $100,000 for the KSM Dream Centre. "CLO and KSM are two important charities in Oakville that both provide innovative programs to support disadvantaged members of our community and help them with their daily lives," said Mayor Rob Burton in announcing this year's tournament beneficiaries. "This tournament is a fun way to bring the community together in support of two great causes. It does get competitive and I hope the players are getting ready for spring training," said the mayor. While the Oakville Professional Firefighters' Association will be looking to repeat as champions this year -- last year's tournament featured 12 teams representing organizations from around Oakville -- about 20 teams are anticipated to take part in 2010. The tournament will be held on July 15 at Glenashton and Trafalgar parks and will include a day of softball as well as dinner and entertainment in the evening. Organizations interested in participating should contact the Mayor's Office directly. Those interested can contact Mark De Paoli, executive assistant to the mayor at 905-845-6601, ext. 3445 or mdepaoli@oakville.ca or Paul Visser, mayor's chief of staff at 905-845-6601, ext. 3071 or pvisser@oakville.ca. CLO is an organization dedicated to promoting the participation of people with developmental challenges in all aspects of community life within Oakville. It supports activities committed to building an inclusive community that values the diverse abilities of all people. For more information, visit www.oakcl.org. KSM assists Oakville's most vulnerable citizens. Serving more than 5,000 people, KSM provides holistic support and care particularly for children, youths and low-income families.
