Narrow win for Pine Grove at Collier competition Pine Grove won one division and finished second in three others, earning enough points to barely edge out Burlington's C.R. Beaudoin for the overall championship at the Halton District School Board's elementary Collier track-and-field meet recently in Burlington. Pine Grove, the junior boys' division champion, finished with 222 points overall, two points ahead of C.R. Beaudoin. River Oaks was third with 134.5 points. All the local schools that participated in the eight-school meet won at least one division pennant. River Oaks took the junior girls' title, Joshua Creek won the intermediate girls and Forest Trail was first in senior boys. The meet was not fully completed as rain and cold temperatures forced organizers to end the meet early. Three or four events were not contested in each age division. The Collier meet is for Grade 6-8 students from the middle-sized schools in the Halton board. It was one of six meets the Halton board held recently. Local top-three finishers in each event at the Collier meet are listed to the right (all spellings of names supplied by the event organizers). 25 · Thursday, June 3, 2010 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.oakvillebeaver.com COLLIER TRACK AND FIELDRESULTS 1 2 3 3 1 2 1 2 3 1 2 3 3 2 2 2 2 3 2 3 · JUNIOR GIRLS 100 metres (record: 13.29, 2009) Bryanna Samuels JC 13.97 Kaleigh Jeffrey PG 14.50 Rachel Palmer PG 14.69 400 metres (record: 1:05.79) Olivia Oberholster RO 1.14.15 1,500 metres (record: 5:22.60) Emily Ramier PG 5.54.63 Sam Heard JC 5.55.78 Relay (record: 57.90) Pine Grove 59.62 Joshua Creek 1:01.19 River Oaks 1:02.25 Long jump (record: 5.03) Olivia Oberholster RO 3.60 Fiona Hood RO 3.52 Julia Scott FT 3.40 Shot put (record: 10.03, 2007)) Holly Higa RO 6.36 · JUNIOR BOYS 400 metres (record: 1:02.15) Morgan McCready PG 1.12.19 1,500 metres (record: 4:43.00) Keegan McEwen PG 5.50.03 Relay (record: 56.20) Pine Grove 59.56 Long jump (record: 5.08) Malcolm PG 4.09 Max FT 3.90 Triple jump (record: 10.24) Morgan McCready PG 8.71 Aaron Bowbyes RO 8.60 Shot put (record: 12.77) 1 Malcolm Ford PG 10.46 2 Makie O'Donnell RO 10.14 · INTERMEDIATE GIRLS 100 metres (record: 12.69) 1 Ashley Krowczyk JC 14.50 2 Zoe Shouotz FT 14.70 3 Christina Gogos JC 14.85 400 metres (record: 1:04.42) 2 Amanda Prestidge RO 1.11.11 1,500 metres (record: 5:21.07) 1 Annika Haynes JC 5.53.70 Relay (record: 55.69) 1 Joshua Creek 58.13 Long jump (record: 4.98) 2 Christina Gogos JC 3.82 High jump (record: 1.63) 2 Hannah Burgess PG 1.20 Shot Put (record: 10.66) 1 Ashley Krawcz;yk JC 8.56 · INTERMEDIATE BOYS 100 metres (record: 12.08) 3 Austin C FT 13.95 400 metres (record: 59.00) 1 Ben Eurett RO 1.05.82 2 Aidan Challis PG 1.06.20 3 Alex Karam JC 1.06.95 1,500 metres (record: 4:36.00) 1 Andrew Dumaresque FT 5.28.53 2 Justin Bush JC 5.31.44 3 Connor Nurmi RO 5.35.32 Relay (record: 52.40) 1 Forest Trail 55.83 2 Pine Grove 56.56 3 Joshua Creek 57.00 Long jump (record: 5.62) 1 Oliver Chau PG 4.03 3 Luca FT 4.00 Triple jump (record: 11.10) 1 Eduan Pretorius RO 9.54 2 Aidan Challis PG 8.90 3 Jackson Richardson RO 8.59 Shot put (record: 14.47) 1 Eduan Pretorius RO 11.39 2 Sean Kohler FT 11.23 3 Evan Rundle PG 10.95 · SENIOR GIRLS 100 metres (record: 12.93 (2009 ) 2 Keelyn Sheremeta PG 14.31 400 metres (record: 1:02.70) 1 Carly White PG 1.06.31 3 Rosie Heffernan FT 1.12.65 1,500 metres (record: 5:15.17) 3 Meghan Noel JC 6.19.59 Triple jump (record: 9.56) 1 Ashley Bowbyes RO 8.62 Relay (record: 54.50) 2 Pine Grove 56.80 High jump (record: 1.63) 3 Nicolette FT 1.20 3 Ashley Bowbyes RO 1.20 Shot put (record: 10.95) 1 Paige McCowan JC 9.30 3 Tu Nguyen RO 8.71 · SENIOR BOYS 100 metres (record: 12.00) 1 Brandon Tyrell PG 12.50 2 Khaleel Griffiths FT 13.05 3 Jared C FT 13.50 400 metres (record: 56.90) 1 Khaleel Griffiths FT 1.01.08 2 Thomas Vrooman PG 1.03.19 3 Munam Ahmed FT 1.04.80 1,500 metres (record: 4:38.19) 3 Tyler Newton PG 5.53.00 Relay (record: 50.20) 1 Forest Trail 51.53 High jump (record: 1.78) 1 Brandon Tyrell PG 1.55 Triple jump (record: 11.55) 2 Thomas Vrooman PG 9.70 POINT STANDINGS Junior Girls (11 years) 1 River Oaks 38.5 2 Pine Grove 37 Junior Boys 2 Pine Grove 55 Intermediate Girls (12 years) 1 Joshua Creek 54 Intermediate Boys 1 Pine Grove 49 2 River Oaks 42 3 Forest Trail 37 Senior Girls (13 years) 3 Pine Grove 27.5 Senior Boys 1 Forest Trail 46 2 Pine Grove 39.5 (Top team in each division wins a pennant) Sunningdale wins overall title at Gough meet Trinity soccer girls hope Finishing first in two divisions and second in the other four, Sunningdale Public School was the overall champion at the Halton District School Board's elementary Gough track-and-field meet recently in Burlington. Eight schools from across Halton, including Oakville's Montclair and Captain R. Wilson, participated in the meet. Local top-three finishers in each event at the Gough meet are listed below (all spellings of names supplied by the event organizers). for another shot at Irish The Holy Trinity Titans might get a second chance to beat their Halton rivals, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. But Titans coach Peter Bonfiglio is only interested in the rematch in one scenario. "As long as it's in the final," the Holy Trinity coach said after his team advanced to the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) girls' soccer AAAA tournament. "That would show that GHAC is the powerhouse conference in girls soccer." The Titans earned their spot at OFSAA with a 1-0 win over Cardinal Newman in the Golden Horseshoe Athletic Conference (GHAC) challenge game Thursday. Anna Longrigge scored the game's lone goal five minutes into the second half and Tori Edgar recorded the shutout for Trinity. GHAC was given a second berth in the tournament, which began today (Thursday) in Stoney Creek, because Notre Dame is the defending champion. But the Titans are confident in their ability to compete with the Irish following last week's Halton final in which Notre Dame scored in the final two minutes to edge the Titans 1-0. "A lot of people watching said it was a fun game to watch and it could have gone either way," Bonfiglio said. The Trinity girls are just one of several local teams competing at OFSAA this week. In soccer, the Titans boys are competing at the AAAA tournament, Aquinas is sending girls' and boys' squads to the AA competition and King's Christian Collegiate's boys are at the A tourney. In rugby, Oakville Trafalgar has girls' and boys' sides at the AAA/AAAA tournament. -- Herb Garbutt GOUGH TRACK AND FIELDRESULTS · JUNIOR GIRLS 100 metres (record: 13.61) 1 Taylor Scott PW 14.25 3
