The second annual Steven Hamel Charity Celebration takes place Wednesday, June 23 in support of Camp Towhee. Camp Towhee is a residential therapeutic summer camp program for children and youths with learning disabilities who experience social, emotional and behavioural problems. It is operated by the Integra Foundation. The camp works to enhance a child's confidence, social skills and more with adventure-based learning. Steven's father, Mike Hamel, credits Integra with helping to turn his son into the man he became saying it helped him develop self-esteem and confidence. Steven went to the camp for two years. Steven died at age 24 in a power boat accident. The fundraiser is at the Oakville Boston Pizza located at 270 North Service Rd. W. (North Service and Dorval Drive). It starts at 7 p.m. There will be a buffet dinner, 50/50 draw, silent auction including a 2010 Boston Bruins NHL hockey team jersey signed by all the players and door prizes. Tickets cost $20.
