The event, known as Oakvilles Biggest Soup Kitchen, galvanizes the culi- nary brilliance of local chefs so far this year 16 restaurants and caterers have joined as soup sponsors to make a specialty soup for event partic- ipants to taste. It also includes the key sup- port of a wide array of busi- nesses including Longos and Royal Bank, both being Gold Spoon Sponsors. The event, introduced to Home Suite Hope by its found- ing executive director Wendy Perkins, further engages the artistic community in the cause to end the cycle of homelessness by having local artisans create distinct, one-of- a-kind pottery bowls that are painted for the event. Crack Pot Studios, a long-standing event supporter, facilitates bowl painting in its studio on Robinson Street in downtown Oakville. On Oct. 17, event attendees will arrive at Appleby College and start by selecting a beauti- fully painted, hand-crafted bowl that they will take home with them (the bowl is includ- ed in the ticket price). During the event, partici- pants may taste as many soups as they would like, visiting the various soup providers and handing the chef their new pottery bowl to fill an expe- rience that tangibly represents the soup kitchen experience many individuals in Canada, who are living in poverty, must face every day. Tickets to the event cost $50 and include a $25 charita- ble donation that goes directly to Home Suite Hopes work in providing transitional housing and outreach services to indi- viduals and families in Halton that are facing homelessness or a housing crisis.
