The Oakville Awards for Business Excellence is an annual awards program that consistently draws hundreds of nom- inations, said Bonnie Anderson, chair of this years gala event, in a press release. Nominations are open from Monday, Oct. 4 until Oct. 31. The awards gala will take place in March 2011. The awards are presented by the Rotary Club of Oakville West and the Oakville Chamber of Commerce. The gala is also a fundraiser for the local Rotary club, which provides academic scholarships. The event raises about $40,000 each year for student scholarships. Award categories are: Oakville Entrepreneur of the Year, Oakville Restaurateur of the Year, Oakville Small Business of the Year, Oakville Large Business of the Year, Oakville Professional and Service Provider of the Year, and Oakville Environmental Leadership Business of the Year. The Halton Regional Police Service is ask- ing for the publics help in finding the man responsible to the Friday robbery of the Shoppers Drug Mart, located at 1515 Rebecca St. Police said the incident occurred shortly after noon when a man walked in and handed an employee at the pharmacy counter a note demanding the powerful painkiller Oxycontin. The employee did as she was instructed. She told police she saw what she believed was the butt of a gun in the waistline of the sus- pects pants, and did as instructed. The suspect was given a small quantity of Oxycontin and then fled the store on foot. No one was injured during the robbery. The suspect is described as a white male, 180 pounds, 6-foot-2 in height, 45 years old or older. He was also described as very twitchy and unshaven. He wore a green baseball hat, a black hood- ie with dark sweat pants that had the number 97 on the front and white stripes down the legs. The police service is investigating the holdup.
