Individuals will be lining up in anticipation of deli- cious soups from the 16 restaurants and caterers that will provide soups for the event. The line up is a key part of the event, as it provides some idea as to what it might be like to have to wait in line for your meals an experience that many indi- viduals living in poverty in Canada face daily. Past years have seen the lineup wind its way across Applebys campus, but this year there is no concern about the weather as the lineup will be inside the Appleby College gymnasi- um. So come rain or come shine, attendees will remain covered. For attendees, the wait in line proves rewarding not only because they will select a beautifully painted, hand- crafted bowl that they will take home with them (the bowl is included in the tick- et price), but also because of the superb soups they will get to taste. During the event, partici- pants may taste as many soups as they would like, vis- iting the various soup providers and handing the chef their new pottery bowl to fill an experience that tangibly represents the soup kitchen experience. Gold Spoon Sponsors Longos and Royal Bank help create awareness of the event and by so doing help spread the word within the community of the growing issue of homelessness in Halton. Longos provided event flyers to customers at their tills on the Thanksgiving weekend and the downtown Oakville and Fourth Line and Speers branches of the Royal Bank have beautiful Empty Bowls displays, pot- tery bowls included, for patrons to view while at the bank. Tickets to the Empty Bowls event cost $50 and include a $25 charitable donation that goes directly to Home Suite Hopes work in providing transitional housing and outreach serv- ices to individuals and fami- lies in Halton that are facing homelessness or a housing crisis.
