I remember walking from our rented home (just east of Charlie Pickerings ) to Dents and Bradley's stores in the years around 1947-1949. We would beg a few pennies from our parents and start heading West toward Trafalgar Road, all the while, scouting for pop bottles in the ditch to supplement our meager finances. We were excited to enter Dents store and looking through his glass display case, observe several varieties of mouth-watering candies. Putting our cash/bottle on the case ,our difficult selection was placed in a small paper bag and the transaction was done. I do remember Mr.Dent always seemed to be kind and have patience for the 2,3, or 4 of us little people. I don,t ever remember our candy making it all the way home with us! Speaking of remembering, I remember a young person,in the house to the right of Dents store. we would some times see them in the yard and they had Downes Syndrome and were very friendly
