The dancers from the Annex Dance Academy in Oakville will be among a large field of international dancers at the World Show and World Tap dance championships. The show competition runs Nov. 22 to Nov. 27 and the tap competition runs Nov. 30 to Dec. 4 in Riesa, Germany. We have watched ours girls explode into fine young performers and this being our 5th year in business we are proud announce that six of our dancers will be travelling to Germany this month to compete for Canada in the world dance competition, said school co-owner and co-director Sarah Dempsey, in an email. The show dance team consists of 24 Canadian dancers, including the locals Emily DSilva, 14, Francesca Martin, 13, and Mili Gomez, 13. The team is choreographed by Blake McGrath, who is a judge on So You Think You Can Dance Canada. The junior division tap dance team, also of 24 dancers, consists of Martin, DSilva along with Valerie Harris, 14. The team is choreographed by tap dancer Everett Smith, a finalist of season two of So You Think You Can Dance. Joining the three juniors are Jordyn Rigby, 17, and Becky Ferris, 18, as part of the 24 member senior division tap team. This is a huge experience for these Oakville girls, Dempsey said. This past summer auditions were held for these dancers and we sent our girls to try out. There were hundreds of dancers from across the country trying for 24 spots on the Canadian team. We are so proud to say that six of the Annex dancers made these spots. They are talented and have exceptional work ethic.
