An art exhibit on now at the Joshua Creek Heritage Art Centre is a depiction of the Christmas spirit of the past, present and future. The exhibit, titled A Christmas Celebration, Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow, features a variety of holi- day-related artifacts. It includes a collection of vintage Christmas cards created by the graphic artists at the CBC, as well as photographs and cards created by 12 students of the arts and leisure pro- gram at Community Living Oakville. In addition to this, there are also icons made by iconog- rapher Marianna Savaryn and the cards of local artists. The exhibit opened on the weekend (Nov. 28) and continues through Jan. 2. The CBCs vintage cards were cre- ated in the 50s and 60s by designers who personally exchanged them. They were made before the time of copiers and scanners and feature various decorative treatments, typography, silkscreen and hand painting. The Community Living artists began their work earlier this year, through a program designed to help expand their knowledge. The partic- ipants went on field trips around Oakville and beyond and learned various rules such as composition, digital camera techniques and visual literacy. The end result features how the 12 students view the world. Sales of the photographs and greeting cards will go to help fund the arts and leisure program. The art centre is located at 1086 Burnhamthorpe Rd. E. Gallery.
