The Blades showed they can play with anybody, handing the Georgetown Raiders their first home loss of the sea- son by beating the Raiders 2-1 Saturday in Georgetown. Braedan Russell scored the winner, breaking a 1-1 tie with 4:36 to go in reg- ulation. Recent acquisition James Prigione earned his first victory in goal for the Blades, stopping 19 shots. But Oakville continues to strug- gle offensively, notching only four goals in its three games over the weekend. The Blades bookended their win over the Raiders with a 3- 1 loss to the Huntsville Otters Friday at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex and a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Burlington Cougars Sunday in Burlington. Oakville currently holds the unique distinction of being both the best defensive team and the worst offensive team in the West Division. The Blades have allowed just 79 goals this season in their 28 games, but theyve also managed only 92 markers of their own. Mark Bennett had the Blades goal in the loss to Huntsville, Mark McGowan had Oakvilles other tally against Georgetown and Stefan Thompsons short- handed effort was the only one of the Blades 51 shots to elude Cougars netminder Adrian Volpe Sunday. Burlington (23-5-1) now leads the West Division, three points up on the 21-7-2 Raiders. Oakville (16- 11-1) sits in fourth spot. The Blades will play two games this weekend, hosting the Buffalo Jr. Sabres for a 7:30 p.m. start Friday at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex and then visiting the Brampton Capitals Saturday. Blades beat Georgetown, ut offence still struggling The Holy Trinity Titans junior boys basketball team doesnt start the Halton regular season until tomorrow (Thursday), but it already has three tourna- ment championships under its belt. The Titans won their own Holy Trinity Tipoff Classic last weekend, defeating Halton rivals Nelson and Notre Dame as well as Grimsbys Blessed Trinity and Hamiltons Sherwood. Trinity also won the McNabb Junior Boys Warmup Tournament and the Turner Fenton Junior Tournament in recent weeks. Nick Ernest has been the Titans top scorer so far this year, averaging 12.8 points a game and earning MVP honours at the Trinity and Turner Fenton tour- naments. Kimbal MacKenzie has added 10.5 points a contest, while Kristijan Petrovic (7.5 points a game) and Lucas Orlita (7.2) have also been key offensive contributors. Other members of the team are Jamal Fisher, David Bysouth, Evan ODell, Chris Lam, Perry Billard, Michael Butler, Matt Geronimo, Jacob Henriksen and Nick Singh. Ron Esteban, Dan Seixeiro and Dave Gatza coach the Titans. Lawrence Msheiel and Desmond Stanley are the teams managers.
