As the Lions Club of Oakville offi- cially celebrated its 75th anniversary with a gala dinner in Bronte Friday, Nov. 5, it took the occasion to publicly announce its new venture thanks to a $100,000 donation in the name of the late Lion George Winnett. Each of KSM and ROCK (Reach Out to Kids Everywhere) are receiving $30,000. KSM, headquartered in the new Dream Centre on Kerr Street, serves more than 5,000 people particularly children and youths and low-income families. Meanwhile, ROCK assists infants to young adults through early intervention for those having, or at risk of developing, mental health prob- lems or mental illness. The Lions Club will maintain ongo- ing support through its Night of 1,000 Reach Out Dinners, a concept to encourage the community to reach out by hosting dinners and collecting donations to support the clubs two charities of choice KSM and ROCK. We announced our partnership with KSM and ROCK with the concept Night of 1,000 Reach Out Dinners. It is to encourage the community to reach out by hosting dinners, collecting donations to support The Lions Club of Oakville to support KSM and/or ROCK, said club president Ron Gamble. We donated $60,000 in memory of Lion George Winnett, to KSM and ROCK ($30,000.each) and challenge the community through the dinners to help us reach a goal of $125,000. We also announced we are working on a scholar- ship/bursary concept for another $30,000, said Gamble. Anyone can sign up. Once registered, a host will receive a marketing kit to assist with the dinner party planning. The goal is to reach 1,000 dinners, maybe even $100,000, said Gamble. The dinners can take any form, date and participants. Dinner party guests can be informed ahead of time that instead of a house gift, a small donation will be collected. Receipts are issued for the full amount of their donation. Those interested are advised to ask a caterer to participate or speak to a local restaurateur. Gamble said the club hopes to raise $125,000 and the effort will continue until it does.
